For many years, heavy tungsten alloys have been the first choice for engineers requiring tungsten radiation shielding or shielding fitting. One key reason for this is tungsten alloy’s very high density; in fact it is more than 60% denser than lead, providing superior attenuation characteristics for x-ray and gamma radiation.
As well as the superior attenuation, the density also gives designers a significant advantage. It allows them to reduce the thickness of their shields and collimators whilst still providing the same protection as lead which is ideal for applications where space is restricted. Tungsten alloy shielding fitting can be manufactured with a reduction in thickness compared to lead, without compromising radiation protection. In addition, the good machinability of tungsten alloy allows our team to manufacture a wide range of designs to customer requirements. After fine polished, its surface is bright and smooth.
