Tungsten alloy kinetic energy armour-piercing bullet is one of the bullets, but unlike a conventional bullet: it doesn't contain explosives, relying mostly on its own kinetic energy to penetrate the target, rather than explosives. It maximizes the mass of the small warhead and is large in mass and high in speed to transfer all of its power to armor. The present kinetic energy weapon can use the kinetic energy to the maximum extent, and transmit the kinetic energy to the minimum area on the loading deck, and shoot at a high initial velocity, and apply the energy to a small area.
To maximize the amount of kinetic energy released on the target, the armour-piercing bullet must be made of a dense material, such as tungsten or depleted uranium (DU) alloy (Staballoy). The product uses the highest density tungsten alloy with advantages of high density, high hardness and good toughness. The hardness of the energy armour-piercing bullet is of less importance, but is still a factor as abrasion is a major component of the penetrator defeat mechanism. Tests have shown that the hole bored by a DU proj ectile is of a narrower diameter than for similar tungsten projectile. That is one of the reasons why tungsten alloy kinetic energy armour-piercing bullet is better than the DU it is.
